Review the BeAlert message carefully and follow any safety guidance.
After a BeAlert message is issued, additional information may be provided via Broadcast email, as well as posted on the myKUMC intranet. It is important to check these resources for additional guidance and information.
Yes, an “all clear” message will be sent once the emergency situation has been verified as resolved and the campus is safe to resume normal operations.
For employees, the data is pulled from Workday. If you prefer not to receive text messages, you may choose to “opt out” in the Workday platform. Please refer to instructions on how to update your cell phone number or opt out of the system.
For students, your cell phone data will still be automatically pulled from the information you provide in Enroll & Pay. Students do have the option to opt out of cell phone alerts; once logged in to Enroll & Pay, instructions are on the personal details tile at the bottom of the Contact Details page.
- Review the Emergency Management Intranet site for more contact information.
- For more information, please contact the appropriate emergency management department for either the University or health system:
- KU Medical Center Office of Emergency Management: UEM@kumc.edu
- The University of Kansas Health System Emergency Management team: emergencypreparedness-healthsystem@kumc.edu
No applications are required to be installed on your cell phone to receive BeAlert messages. However, you may choose to install the Rave Guardian app, which does allow for push messages, and has other safety features.
BeAlert data is automatically updated on a daily basis from Workday (employees) and Enroll & Pay (students); therefore, in the event you change campuses for work or classes, this information should be automatically updated with no changes needed on your part.
The BeAlert system pulls from the Workday system and for dually employed this specifically means the system from which you receive your paycheck. If you receive your paycheck from KU Medical Center, you will need to ensure your cell phone information is updated in the medical center Workday. If your paycheck is from The University of Kansas Health System, then you should ensure your cell phone information is updated in their version of Workday.
KUMC student will only receive an alert from Lawrence if they have a class location at Lawrence or Edwards campuses.
