Elaine M. Fan, MD, MS is a dedicated Pediatric Hematology-Oncology attending physician at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita and Wesley Children's Hospital. She is passionate about providing comprehensive care to children with blood disorders and cancer, with specific interests in hematologic malignancies and blastoma solid tumors. Dr. Fan’s journey into pediatric oncology began during her college years when she had the privilege of shadowing the remarkable Dr. McKinnell, a pediatric oncologist whose exceptional care for her patients inspired Dr. Fan and deepened her commitment to the field.

Dr. Fan is double board-certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and in Clinical Informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM). She is also board-eligible in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, reflecting her dedication to advancing her expertise and improving patient outcomes.

Research

Overview

Dr. Fan is passionate about leveraging clinical informatics to bridge the gap between medicine and technology, enhancing both provider and patient experiences, and ultimately improving health outcomes in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. She is particularly focused on improving clinical workflow efficiency and developing clinical decision support tools within electronic health records to enhance diagnostic accuracy while minimizing medical errors. To further her expertise in this area, Dr. Fan pursued a Master of Biomedical Informatics during her fellowship at the University of Utah.

Her interests extend beyond medicine and informatics. Driven by her passion for system improvement and healthcare leadership, she is pursuing a Physician MBA at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Dr. Fan aims to join her colleagues in becoming a change agent within the healthcare system.

In addition, Dr. Fan serves as a Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Section Editor for HemOnc.org and as a Clinical Consultant for the Oncology Research and Evaluation (ClinCORE) Program at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Surveillance Research Program (SRP).
