Dr. Nickerson joined the KU Department of Plastic Surgery in July 2022, after 20 years in an academic plastic surgery practice in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. During that time he served as the medical director of the Calgary Firefighters’ Burn Treatment Centre (2007-2022) and director of the University of Calgary’s Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program (2017-2022). Dr. Nickerson completed medical school at the University of Calgary, and plastic surgery residency at the University of British Columbia. He subsequently did a fellowship in acute and reconstructive burn surgery at the Ross Tilley Burn Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
Apart from a passion for caring for burn-injured patients, Dr. Nickerson’s other main areas of interest within plastic surgery are reconstruction of injuries from trauma, and hand surgery.
Dr. Nickerson is certified in plastic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and is a member of numerous professional societies including the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association.
Dr. Nickerson is committed to helping patients return to their highest potential level of function after an injury or impairment.
