Professional Background
Dr. Diane Mahoney is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Dr. Mahoney received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies. Dr. Mahoney is a board certified nurse practitioner in the areas of family practice and women’s health care. She also holds a nurse certificate in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
Dr. Mahoney holds memberships with the American Association for Cancer Research, Society of Gynecologic Oncology, Oncology Nursing Society, Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science, Midwest Nursing Research Society, American Association of Nursing Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Research
Overview
Dr. Mahoney holds the Beverly Gaines Tipton Endowed Professorship in Oncology Nursing. Her research interests include basic, translational, and clinical research surrounding female cancers and cancer disparities. Her current projects are focused on ovarian cancer development and discovery of novel biomarkers for early screening and disease detection. Her research areas also incorporate symptom science, precision health, and cancer disparities.
Dr. Mahoney is an associate member of the University of Kansas Cancer Center- Cancer Prevention and Control research program. She is currently funded by the Kansas Institute for Precision Medicine's National Institute of General Medical Sciences Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence grant (P20 GM130423) to investigate plasma microbiota biosignatures in early ovarian cancer detection.
