Professional Background

I am passionate about medical education, excellence in medical care, and global health. Just prior to graduating from residency at KU-Wichita Pediatrics, I had the opportunity to work with a group of medical students on an international trip to provide medical care to people in Ecuador. While there, I realized that medical education is my long-term interest. I completed my master's courses in medical education through the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2016. I became an Associate Program Director in the KU School of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program in 2013 and the Pediatric Residency Program Director from 2017-2022. After having a couple children, I returned to education leadership and became the Assistant Clerkship Director in Pediatrics at KU-Wichita in 2026. My favorite part of medicine is helping learners at all levels work through management decisions to provide optimal patient care.

Newborn care has always been one of my passions and areas of interest, and I love welcoming babies and their families to the clinic after their birth.

While I love the opportunity to be involved in medical education in developing countries, and have been engaged in education in Zambia, Mongolia, Ghana, and Bolivia, my interests have become focused on local global health and the provision of care to immigrants in our community, as well as providing opportunities for our residents to engage in global health. A highlight of my year is co-championing our annual KU-Wichita Global Health Day during which we provide a half-day training event for residents from the KU-W Pediatric Residency Program, KU-W Med/Peds Residency Program, Via Christi Family Medicine Residency Program and the Wesley Family Medicine Residency Program.

I developed an interest in coaching and became an Assistant Director for the Jager Society in 2022. Through this, every 2 years I have a new cohort of 7 medical students that I coach for four years during the entirety of their medical school training. Additionally, I facilitate another group of 7 students during their weekly Problem-Based Learning discussions. Both coaching and facilitating are highlights of my week, and I decided to pursue further training as a coach. I completed a coach training course through the Physician Coaching Institute and became a Master Certified Physician Development Coach in 2024.
