David Embers, MD

Professional Background
Dr. David Embers is a board-certified family medicine physician with specialized fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine. He currently serves as a team physician for the Kansas City Current and the University of Kansas, and is the Medical Director of the Orthopedics Same Day Clinic at the University of Kansas Health System.
His clinical interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound, concussion management, orthobiologic interventions, and acute sports injuries in both elite athletes and active individuals.
A Kansas native, Dr. Embers completed his medical degree, residency in Family Medicine, and Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Kansas. He is Registered in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (RMSK) and has authored multiple case reports and research projects focused on injury prevention, opioid use in sports medicine, and diagnostic ultrasound education.
Dr. Embers is also a committed medical educator and mentor. He has received numerous awards for clinical teaching and research, including the Resident Teaching and Research Awards and the prestigious James G. Price, M.D. Award for Excellence in Family Medicine. As a former Chief Resident and active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), he has held national leadership roles and remains actively involved in developing medical education content for trainees.
He is a co-founder and past director of the Musculoskeletal Night at JayDoc Free Health Clinic, a student-led initiative providing care to underserved populations. Through this work and numerous research and service activities, Dr. Embers continues to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of sports medicine, musculoskeletal education, and equitable healthcare access.
