Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 prohibits employers from treating any applicant, employee, or faculty member unfavorably with respect to the terms, conditions and privileges of employment because of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.  The PDA also prohibits an employer from denying temporary accommodations for pregnancy related medical conditions if similar accommodations are provided for other employees with temporary medical conditions.

Title IX prohibits colleges and universities from denying an applicant or student access to, or participation in, educational programs and activities based on sex, including pregnancy.

The Family Medical Leave Act provides qualified employees the right to take leave from work for delivery of and care for a newborn. The qualifications and procedures for requesting leave under the FMLA can be found here.

If you believe you have been subjected to pregnancy discrimination or have witnessed pregnancy discrimination, please contact the EOO office at (913) 588-8011, or click here to file a complaint online.
