AHEC Virtual Classroom

Welcome to the KU Area Health Education Center's Virtual Classroom. Over the years, The KU Area Health Education Center has been focused on providing quality education that is accessible to as many people as possible. We realize that not everyone works on the same schedule, so with the AHEC Virtual Classroom, we've provided learning opportunities for you to engage in at your own pace on your own schedule.

Your Guide to  a Healthy Camp Experience

What will it be about: This series will focus on providing a healthy camp experience for kids. The sessions will cover topics such as health policy and protocol, mental health of the campers, medication management, and treatment of minor and major injuries. It will also address preventing and treating common outdoor issues such as sunburn, dehydration, heatstroke, bites, stings, poison ivy, and more.

Who will it be for: This series is being developed for Camp Nurses, Camp Counselors/Staff, and all other individuals interested in building and maintaining a healthy camp experience.

What credit might be available: Nursing

A Lesson Plan for Healthy Students - What's In Your Backpack?

What will it be about: This series will focus on providing school personnel the opportunity to be updated on the current health care needs of students. The sessions in this series cover topics such as self-care, support of student during a pandemic, interprofessional approach to crisis intervention, understanding behavioral/emotional disturbances in the classroom, evaluating and reporting child abuse/neglect, chronic pain and stress in children, basic first aid and medication dispensing, and more!

Who will it be for: This series is being developed for School Nurses, Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Counselors, Teachers, Coaches, Para-Professionals, Administrators, Health Educators, and all other individuals interested in promoting healthy students.

What credit might be available: Nursing, Social Work
