Schedule of University & Department Activities

We’re excited to welcome you back to our Kansas City campus for the first time in three years!

Our full schedule of university activities on Friday, Oct. 7 is below. Virtual sessions are available for select activities as listed below. Space is limited for some activities, so please register early to reserve your spot. Registration is required for all events. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 30.

University Activities - Friday, October 7

8 - 10 a.m.
Gold Medal Breakfast for the Class of 1972
Members of the 1972 classes: you are invited to attend this special breakfast honoring your 50th reunion. During the breakfast, you’ll receive your gold medal pins and share memories of your time at KU Medical Center.

9:15 - 10 a.m.
Botanical Gardens Tour 1
Take a stroll through beautiful campus gardens. The Botanic Gardens at the University of Kansas Medical Center utilizes plants and nature’s beneficial properties to educate, uplift and inspire healthy communities.

KU Medical Center Historical Tour 1
This brief, historical walking tour of the Kansas City campus will feature some of the oldest and newest buildings on campus. Come along to learn about the buildings and the leaders they were named after.

9:15 - 10 a.m.
Neis Clinical Skills Laboratory Tour 1
Take a tour of the Neis Clinical Laboratory, an immersive environment where students can learn and test their knowledge, skills and abilities in a simulated clinical setting. The NCSL is designed to mimic a clinic care facility and includes out-patient suites, in-patient rooms, a home-care suite and more.

9:15 - 10 a.m.
Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning (ZIEL) Tour 1
Take a tour of KU Medical Center’s state-of-the-art simulation labs. The Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning provides the resources necessary to create immersive training experiences for health care professionals and trainees from all disciplines.

10:15 - 11 a.m.
Coffee with Abiodun Akinwuntan, Dean of the KU School of Health Professions
The dean invites all KU School of Health Professions alumni to join him for an informal chat over coffee and treats.

Stop by the Health Education Building Courtyard to purchase lunch at our food truck and learn about the exciting initiatives and programs happening on campus.

Community Impact Panel - Virtual attendance available!
Hear from a panel of KU and KU Medical Center alumni and partners who have made a significant community impact.

2 - 3 p.m.
Continuing Education Event - Provider Burnout: It Was Around Long Before COVID - Virtual attendance available!
Kim Templeton, MD, will lead this continuing education course designed to help prevent burnout for those working in health care.

The Women in White: Oral History of Women Medical Graduates Prior to 1975
Join us as we celebrate the unique generation of women who entered medicine between World War II and the early 1970s.

4 - 5:15 p.m.
Alumni Awards Recognition Ceremony - Virtual attendance available!
Join us in honoring nine outstanding alumni (and honorary alumni). The Alumni Awards are the highest honors the KU Medical Center Alumni Association bestows upon graduates and those who have made outstanding contributions to health care.

Meet the 2022 recipients

6 to 8 p.m.
Medical Alumni Reception hosted by Akinlolu & Tammy Ojo
Medical alumni and guests are invited to attend a reception hosted by Akinlolu Ojo, MD, PhD, MBA, MPH, executive dean, KU School of Medicine and wife, Tammy Ojo, MD. Visit with graduates of all class years, hear about ongoing efforts to grow the pipeline of future healthcare providers, student support and the future of medical education at the KU School of Medicine. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided at the reception.

Jessie Ball Lecture and Pinning Ceremony for 1st Year Physical Therapy and Athletic Training Students
Please join the Annual Jessie Ball Lecture and Pinning Ceremony for the physical therapy class of 2025 and the athletic training class of 2024. The lecture will be presented by Kendra Gagnon, PhD'09, PT. Dr. Gagnon is a former faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training, and graduated from its rehabilitation science program. She is currently chair of a developing physical therapy program at Johns Hopkins University.

Occupational Therapy Education Professional Panel, Poster Session and Reception
The KU Department of Occupational Therapy Education invites you to join its Professional Panel, Virtual and In-Person Poster Sessions, and Reception & 2020 Graduate Recognition. Beverages and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served at the reception. Continuing education credit hours will be offered for this event (3 credits total).

Registration cancellations must be received by Thursday, September 15 to be eligible for refund.
The KU Medical Center Office of Alumni Relations reserves the right to cancel an event due to low enrollment or other circumstances that would make the event non-viable. Registrants will be offered a refund if the Alumni Relations office cancels an event with a registration fee prior to venue cancellation deadlines.
