FY26 Application
On behalf of the Executive Vice Chancellor's Office, we are calling for applications for the FY26 KU Medical Center Biomedical Research Training Program Award
BRTP FY26 SUBMISSION DEADLINE is Friday, September 12, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
The BRTP supports applicants who are committed to pursuing externally funded training opportunities such as individual fellowships from the NIH (e.g., F31, F32), NSF, DoD, or private foundations, or contributing to the development of institutional training programs (e.g., T32). Pre- and post-doctoral fellows in funded basic science, clinical, and translational research laboratories are eligible. In brief, program requirements are as follows:
- Applicants must be working under a faculty member with a primary academic appointment in the School of Medicine, Health Professions, or Nursing at The University of Kansas Medical Center.
- Previous BRTP awardees and trainees supported by NIH F or T awards are ineligible.
- Predoctoral applicants must be through their first year of graduate school (or both years of the ACE curriculum for MSTP students) and enrolled in a PhD-granting program.
- Faculty may serve as Primary Sponsor on only one application per BRTP funding cycle. Multiple applications from the same primary sponsor will not be accepted.
- Primary sponsors of predoctoral applicants must have a Graduate Faculty appointment at KUMC.
- Primary sponsors must report that they have secured funds for the scholar’s salary and support of the research project.
- Faculty co-sponsor(s) may be listed if they have a significant contribution to the development of the scholar and the completion of the proposed project.
- Applications are to be written by trainees, with feedback and input from the sponsor(s).
- A plan for how the BRTP award will be used to enhance an external application should be included.
- While the BRTP application format is designed to reflect and support the generation of an NIH F award application, an applicant’s NIH training grant eligibility status will not affect the score of the BRTP application.
- Please note, this is contingent on the availability of funding. Awarded funds are used for salary in the FY26 year (expires June 30, 2026).
Applications will open July 28, 2025.
Applications will be reviewed and scored based on the following criteria:
- Previous training and productivity of the candidate and commitment to apply for external funding,
- Quality of the proposal, especially regarding potential for external funding,
- Strength of the training plan and sponsor(s)’ record for training students and fellows.
