Professional Background
Dr. Bernita Berntsen, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Bariatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Berntsen is from La Harpe, Kansas, accomplished a bachelor degree at Pittsburg State University and is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she completed her surgical residency. She finished additional training in gastrointestinal laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Berntsen joined our faculty in 2017 and is board-certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Her clinical interests are in all aspects of general and minimally invasive surgery.
