Andrew Aschenbrenner, Ph.D.

Professional Background

Andrew Aschenbrenner, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and in the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. He completed his graduate studies in psychology at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to joining the University of Kansas in 2025, Dr. Aschenbrenner was an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Washington University in St. Louis, having previously served as a postdoctoral research associate for the department’s Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer’s Network - Trials Unit.


Research

Overview

Dr. Aschenbrenner’s research interests include cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease, with a particular emphasis on digital and high-frequency cognitive assessments, early detection and neuropsychological phenotyping. He has served as principal investigator on several studies, including those that have examined cognitive effort in Alzheimer’s disease and within-person dynamics of cognition and personality in healthy aging and Alzheimer’s disease. His publications include research articles on cognitive variability in healthy aging and mild cognitive impairment and a longitudinal analysis of a dominantly inherited Alzheimer’s disease mutation carrier protected from dementia.
