Dr. Atta Nawabi, M.D., M.B.A., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., is a Professor of Surgery in the Transplantation and HPB Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. After completing medical school at the Kabul University in Afghanistan, Dr. Nawabi entered the United States to finish his General Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport. Upon completing his residency in 2006, he entered a fellowship program in Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant and Hepato-Pancreato- Biliary Surgery at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from 2006 to 2008. Also, Dr. Nawabi completed a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Kansas School of Business in 2018, and is currently working towards the completion of a Master’s in Public Health.
Dr. Nawabi joined our faculty in 2008 and is a member of prominent national societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. His specialty is liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, as well as complex hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. He also performs complex laparoscopic surgeries, including living donor nephrectomies.
