Professional Background
Dr. Alykhan S. Nagji is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Kansas where he specializes in all aspects of general thoracic surgery and is board certified in general and thoracic surgery. In addition to his areas of specialty he led the development and growth of the robotic surgery program for General Thoracic Surgery at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Nagji grew up in Dallas, Texas. He attended Rice University in Houston, Texas for his undergraduate education and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biochemistry. He then graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Upon graduation he completed his General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery training at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia where he had the opportunity to train under some of the leaders in Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Nagji was then recruited to the University of Kansas Health System to join a growing General Thoracic Surgery practice.
Dr. Nagji has authored and coauthored several chapters in medical textbooks on his specialty interests which include lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mediastinal diseases. His articles have been published in leading publications such as the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, Journal of Pathology, American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, and Oncogene.
Dr. Nagji is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa. He is also a member of the Muller-Jones Society.
