Alex Koszalinski, Ph.D., DPT, PT, OCS, FAAOMPT

Professional Background

Alex Koszalinski, Ph.D., DPT, PT, OCS, FAAOMPT, is a clinical associate professor in KU's doctoral program in physical therapy. He is board certified in orthopedic physical therapy since 2005, and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists since 2007. Koszalinski joined the School of Health Professions faculty in November 2024 and teaches courses in anatomy, musculoskeletal conditions and orthopedics. He also is assisting in development of the new hybrid program option.

Before joining the University of Kansas, Koszalinski served on the faculty at South College, Knoxville, Tennessee, including as director of the physical therapy doctorate program from 2021 to 2024. He also held a faculty position at Walsh University, North Canton, Ohio.

Koszalinski has held a number of clinical positions in physical therapy clinics dating back to 1996. This includes as regional manager and co-owner of Breakthrough Physical Therapy, a private outpatient physical therapy clinic in Fayetteville, North Carolina, addressing disorders of the spine and extremities.

Academic Background
Koszalinski earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in physical therapy from Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and a transitional doctorate (DPT) in physical therapy from University of St. Augustine, St. Augustine, Florida. He completed the Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship in 2007 through Regis University, Denver, Colorado, and the Fellowship in Education Leadership through the American Physical Therapy Association in 2020.


Research

Overview

Research areas of focus for Koszalinski include manual therapy and trigger point dry needling, as well as educational research with effective study methods, stress management and curricular design in hybrid education models.
