Professional Background

Angela Couture, DHSc., RHIA, joined the faculty in the Department of Health Information management in 2016 and brings a diverse background in quality and performance improvement. Most recently, Couture was a performance improvement specialist for a local hospital. In this role, she was responsible for auditing and reporting on patient care and quality metrics to hospital leadership. She also implemented department-specific performance improvement projects in collaboration with various hospital departments.

Couture has also managed quality assurance projects for an insurance software development company. She has experience developing and implementing a detailed testing strategy across system design/build/test cycles as well as defect tracking and reporting. Additional expertise includes developing and reporting project quality metrics and analyzing the software development life cycle for areas of process improvement.

Academic Background
Couture earned her bachelor’s degree in health information management from the University of Kansas in 2014 and a master’s degree in instructional design and technology from Emporia State in 2019. She completed her doctorate in health sciences with concentration in global health from A.T. Still University in 2023. Couture’s applied research project examined the inclusion of student resilience and wellness resources in undergraduate health information management education.
