Operating Procedure for COVID-19 Vaccination
The University of Kansas Medical Center does not require COVID-19 vaccination. The University of Kansas Medical Center partners with multiple health systems and health care providers to provide clinical and programmatic experiences for its students. Many of our clinical partners are currently requiring all students to have received the COVID-19 vaccine before their on-site experiences and training may begin. As a result, unvaccinated students could be precluded from participating in these activities, potentially impacting their ability to complete all program requirements. Students with concerns should speak with the Student Affairs Dean for their school.
Although COVID-19 vaccination in not required by the University of Kansas Medical Center, to comply with clinical partner requirements, the University directs all clinical students and students who will participate in programmatic activities at the University of Kansas Health System to provide a copy of their CDC vaccination card to KUMC Student Health. Student Health may share vaccination status with the Student Affairs Dean from each school so that the information can be shared as needed with clinical coordinators and department chairs to facilitate clinical or programmatic placement and ensure compliance with partner agency requirements. Please email a copy of the card to studenthealthrecords@kumc.edu , fax a copy to 913-588-1943, or provide a copy in-person at 1012 Student Center.
Students may seek a medical or religious exemption from a clinical partner's COVID-19 vaccination requirement. The process for requesting an exemption is dependent on the clinical site. Some clinical partners delegate exemption review to the University, while other sites review and decide exemption requests. Students with questions should speak with their Dean for Student Affairs. University of Kansas Medical Center forms for a religious or medical exemption can be found in our Student Resources.
