Professional Licensure Disclosure

The University of Kansas Medical Center provides students with information about programs that are designed to lead to a professional licensure, in compliance with federal regulations. This aims to help students make informed decisions regarding their education and career paths.

KU Medical Center’s licensure programs strive to maintain accurate and up-to-date information about the educational requirements for licensure in U.S. states and territories. However, regulations are subject to change and varying interpretations. In addition to possible changes in educational requirements, licensure often includes additional requirements, such as specific examinations and additional training or practicum hours. It is highly recommended that students seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency before beginning an academic program to ensure they know what is needed to obtain the license/certification/registration in the state in which they intend to practice and/or seek licensure.

Student Location

The University of Kansas Medical Center determines the student location for purpose of licensure disclosures in the following manner: the physical address where a student lives while taking classes at the KU Medical Center serves as the student location. It is stored in KU Medical Center’s Student Information System, Enroll & Pay. Updates are at the discretion of the student.

In cases where a current address is requested but not provided, the student location will be considered the State of Kansas. Similarly, for students residing outside any U.S. state or territory, the student location will be considered the State of Kansas.

Public Disclosures

KU Medical Center licensure programs are required to indicate whether their program meets the educational requirements for licensure in certain U.S. states or territories. Some programs make a determination for all states and territories, while others make the determination selectively based on the educational objectives of the program.

Prospective online students residing in a state or territory in which educational requirements of licensure has not been affirmed will not be eligible for federal financial aid for that program unless they intend to practice in a state where the program meets educational requirements.  In these cases, the student must formally attest to this intent.

Non-degree and certificate programs that are eligible for financial aid and designed to prepare a student for the educational requirements of licensure are also required to disclose the pass/fail rate for licensure exams.

Direct Disclosures to Students

The U.S. Department of Education requires KU Medical Center to disclose information directly to students based on their location or change in location. Relocation to another state during the course of your program may impact a student’s ability to obtain licensure in their new state. Please communicate with your program prior to making any decision to relocate to determine your options.
