Student Governing Council
Student Governing Council (SGC) serves as the voice of the student body to administrators and faculty at KU Medical Center, as well as to the outside community. It is the primary representative body of the students at the medical center.
Our Mission
The Student Governing Council (SGC) voting members come from the respective student governing bodies from each of the schools that make up KU Medical Center, which includes The Association of Undergraduate Students of Nursing, The Graduate Student Council, The Medical Student Assembly and The School of Health Professions Senate.
Executive Board and Responsibilities
President - Mark Faber, Medicine
The primary representative of the KUMC Student Body to administration, staff and the outside world.
Senate Chair - Aubrey McReynolds, Ph.D. Student (Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology)
The presiding officer over senate proceedings, in charge of running executive and full senate meetings.
Vice President - Colette Worcester, M.D./Ph.D. Student (Cancer Biology)
Coordinates ongoing efforts among the SGC executive committee, committee co-chairs, and the Presidents of AUSN, GSC, MSA and SHP.
Director of Finance - Maryam Gholampour, Ph.D. Student (Pathology & Laboratory Medicine)
Manages all of SGC finances-a budget of approximately $50,000 per year.
Director of Communications - Aprajita Tripathi, Ph.D. Student (Cancer Biology)
Solicits input from and distributes SGC information to the KUMC student body.
Committees
Campus Management
The campus management committee represents student interests to the following campus entities:
- Parking
- Information Resources (IR)
- Facilities
- KUMC Police
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Members discuss and create ways to enhance SGC Senate and student body understanding DEI policies and issues. This committee works with the university Chief Diversity Officer and with other SGC committees to ensure DEI considerations are integrated into broader council activities.
Finance
Members of the SGC Finance Committee meets at least once per month to evaluate and vote upon funding applications for student organizations, as well as student travel awards.
Interprofessional
The Interprofessional Committee is responsible for the ongoing effort to make KU Medical Center a more collaborative, interprofessional place. They coordinate with the Office of Student Life to throw events like Faculty Appreciation Day and Post-Interprofessional-Education parties.
Student Services
The members of the Student Services Committee meet regularly with administrators in Student Health, Financial Aid, Kirmayer Fitness Center, Student Life, Dykes Library, International Programs and the Registrar's Office to work on optimizing the services these departments provide for students.
Funding Information
- If you are a student organization, you can request funding. A medical center login is required. Funding requests will only be considered if the event being funded is open to all KU Medical Center students.

Our meetings are held every other Wednesday evening from 5-6 p.m. CST. via Microsoft Teams
