Funds Managed by the Office of International Programs

Office of International Programs Award
Any student or resident planning an international experience and has not received other OIP funding may apply; the amount awarded varies. Contact the Office of International Programs for additional details.

Halsey Infectious Disease & Tropical Medicine Training Award
This award is given to a medical student to complete a 4th-year International Clinical Elective Rotation in the field of Infectious Diseases and/or Tropical Medicine.

Kovac International Observership Award
This award is given to residents, nurse anesthesia education students, and respiratory care education students to participate in an International Educational Experience in Peru or Ghana.

Lou Loescher-Junge International Travel Award
Awarded to students in the School of Health Professions for an International Educational Experience in the country of the student's choice.

Robinson-Mani International Studies Award
Nine students annually are given this award to complete a 4 week clinical rotation at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. Students from the School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Health Professions are eligible to apply.

VMR Resident Scholarship Program
One scholarship is available annually for a Neuroscience resident to conduct fully-funded independent research at an international location of their choice.

Clendening Summer Fellowship
Provided and administered by the Department of History and Philosophy of Medicine, the Clendening Summer Fellowship annually provides 8-10 first-year medical students with funds to conduct independent research. These research projects may be completed internationally or domestically. Contact Dr. Tarris Rosell (trosell@kumc.edu) for details.

Diversity and International Experiences Fund Award
Awarded to students in the School of Health Professions for an International Educational Experience in the country of the student's choice. 

Rural Health Education Services International Medical Education and Mission Award
Awarded to any student or resident planning a rural International Educational Experience in the country of the student's choice.

Student Governing Council Travel Award
Awarded to any KUMC student. Distributed four times a year in September, November, February, and April. Award maximum is $750.


KU Endowment Loans

Medical, Health Professions & Nursing student loans are offered to students enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students in Medical, Health Professions & Nursing at the KU Medical Center. Loan repayment will begin one year after graduation. Repayment of Medical, Health Professions and Nursing student loans can be deferred until internship or residency programs are completed.

Boren Fellowships Various Undergraduate & Graduate Preferred Fields of Study include Medical Sciences and Nursing Boren Scholars and Fellows from diverse fields of study immerse themselves in the cultures in world regions underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Chateaubriand Fellowship Program France PhD Students STEM, Humanities and Social Sciences The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States. It supports outstanding Ph.D. students from American universities who wish to conduct research in France for a period ranging from 4 to 9 months. Chateaubriand fellows are selected through a merit-based competition, through a collaborative process involving expert evaluators in both countries.

Fulbright Student Program Various Must have a conferred bachelor's degree or equivalent before the start of the grant. Turkish Coalition of America Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or Bosnia and Herzegovina Undergraduate & Graduate Various TCA is a fully independent 501(c)(3) public charitable organization that receives no funding from either the U.S. or Turkish government. It is funded entirely by Turkish Americans who believe in a strong U.S.-Turkey relationship and who are proud of their Turkish heritage and by others who share these ideals.
