The University of Gulu is located in the city of Gulu, one of the largest cities in Uganda.


  • U.S. citizens in possession of a valid U.S. passport do not need a visa for airport transit, tourist or business trips for stays up to 90 days.
  • Passport must be valid for six months beyond date of entry.
  • This does not necessarily apply to U.S. residents who hold an Alien Registration Card (green card). They need to check the relevant visa requirements with the authorities of the country of their nationality.
  • If you do not already have a passport, start that process early. Visit the U.S. State Department website for more information on passport applications.


You must have proof of yellow fever vaccination.

Application Fees

There is no application fee.

Rotation Information

Available to students in the School of Medicine. Registration is capped at six to eight students per rotation.

How to Apply

Submit the following documents to the Office of International Programs:

  • Dean's letter of recommendation. We have this for you.
  • Student letter of motivation
  • Copy of passport


Accommodations are organized by the university. Rent for a single bedroom is approximately $780 per month. Rent for a three-bedroom house is approximately $1,500-$2,000.


  1. You will fly into Entebbe Airport (near Kampala).
  2. You will have to arrange ground transportation to Gulu (approx. 400 km, $300-$400) or limited local flights are available to Gulu Airport.
