Emeritus Professorship
Emeritus/Emerita status is an honorary title awarded to a retiring faculty member or administrator for extended meritorious service.
Recognition Requirements
The title of professor emeritus may be awarded to an outstanding faculty member with:
- A regular appointment at the professor or associate professor level, or
- Has reached the highest rank in administration for an extended period of time (ten year minimum), and
- Has served KU Medical Center with distinction.
Nomination Process
Recommendations for Emeritus/Emerita status are accepted on a rolling basis and must be initiated by the chair of the honoree’s department. They are then reviewed and approved by the school’s dean, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Executive Chancellor and the Chancellor.
Emeritus status is granted as a continuous appointment and does not require renewal.
