COVID Adjustments

Counseling and Educational Support has closed our physical offices due to the coronavirus pandemic. Staff are maintaining regular office hours while telecommuting and will continue to provide counseling services via Zoom.

While there are no session limits, counseling is typically provided in a short-term, goal-oriented format. A wide variety of concerns may be addressed in counseling, including:

  • Managing stress
  • Improving relationships
  • Making transitions
  • Successfully adapting to academic programs or other life situations
  • Clarifying values
  • Changing behavior patterns
  • Dealing with feelings of depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, or anger

Services offered include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Couples counseling
  • Workshops and groups
  • Crisis intervention
  • 30-minute problem-solving meetings

If additional services or resources are needed for adequate treatment, then appropriate, professional referrals will be provided.

Telemental Health Service Disclaimer
We appreciate the opportunity to work with students and residents who are unable to meet face to face on-site for some psychological services. However, the initial meeting must be face-to-face on-site at the Kansas City campus. At the initial appointment, the provider will determine the appropriateness of video or telephone consultations for future sessions. Please know that telemental health services have limitations and are not appropriate to resolve all psychological concerns. If telemental health services are determined not to be appropriate, referrals to community resources will be provided.
