Sherri Theoharidis, Ph.D.

Professional Background

Dr. Theoharidis received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) and completed her doctoral internship at UMKC Counseling Services. Prior to joining KUMC Counseling and Educational Support Services, Dr. Theoharidis was a staff psychologist at UMKC Counseling Services, where she developed and served as Chair of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team. Dr. Theoharidis is a licensed psychologist in Kansas and Missouri, as well as a PSYPACT-authorized psychologist. She is also a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. Her professional experience includes private practice, inpatient and intensive outpatient settings, and specialized eating disorder treatment. In addition to providing individual, group, and couples therapy, she enjoys providing presentations and trainings and facilitating workshops. Dr. Theoharidis’ areas of special interest include eating concerns, body image, anxiety and perfectionism, trauma, self-esteem, and identity development. Her approach to counseling is collaborative and grounded in creating a positive, safe, and supportive environment where clients feel heard and valued. She places particular importance on honoring each client’s voice, experiences, cultural background, and unique aspects of their identity.

Dr. Theoharidis believes the therapeutic relationship is a key foundation for meaningful growth and change. Her work incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral, Emotions Focused, Interpersonal Process, and Person-Centered Therapy. When appropriate, she also incorporates approaches that foster a stronger connection between mind and body through awareness, mindfulness, and self-compassion. Collaboration with other resources and providers is integrated into her work when it can further support clients’ overall well-being.

Outside of work, Dr. Theoharidis enjoys finding a great coffee shop, a beautiful sunny day, and spending time with family and friends.
