Monica Oh, Ph.D.
Professional Background
I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and M.A. in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri- Kansas City. I completed my post-doctoral internship (multicultural emphasis) at the University of Kansas Medical Center and finished my doctoral internship at the University of Missouri. Lastly, I received my B.A. in Psychology and Dance from the University of North Texas. I’m a licensed psychologist in Kansas and Missouri.
As a therapist, I worked with a variety of client concerns and have developed particular interest in adjustment issues, multicultural counseling, familial concerns, anxiety, trauma, depression, and stress management. My approach to counseling is to help my clients discover their strengths and resources. At the same time, I’m comfortable with using more directive techniques to help facilitate change and manage client symptoms. I collaborate with my clients to strategize ways to work toward their therapeutic goals, while offering unconditional positive regard and empathy. I regularly incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions and other techniques into my work, drawing largely from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
In my free time, I enjoy going to dance fitness classes, watching sports, and attending live music events. During the winter season, I enjoy snowboarding with my friends and partner.
