Matthew Hermanson, M.Ed.
Professional Background
I received a BS in Biology from Truman State University and followed by a Master's in Education. I have always had an interest and enjoyment of science/medicine. Before I became a Learning Specialist at KU Medical Center, I taught Biology and Anatomy/Physiology courses. Working with students who aspired to become doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc., was exciting and fulfilling work.
I decided to become a Learning Specialist because I wanted to continue working within the education field but at a more advanced content level. I love helping students who are passionate about learning medicine and aiding them in finding ways to be more successful as they work towards realizing their dream of a career in medicine. Each person, at some point in our academic life, will reach their personal limitations or hit that nut that they just can't crack. I am excited to spend my time helping amazing and intelligent students find new ways to be successful.
When I am not at KU Medical Center, I enjoy time with my wife, a nurse, and our two boys. When I am able to find the time, I like to run, bike, hike, camp, and pretty much anything else outdoors. I enjoy "tangible hobbies" like cooking, gardening, and building things.
