Danyele Shelton, Ph.D.

Staff Psychologist

(she/her/hers)

Professional Background

I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. I completed my Doctoral Internship at the University of Memphis Counseling Center. I completed my Postdoctoral training at the Center for Behavioral Health at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. I am a licensed psychologist in Kansas and Missouri.

My clinical experiences include individual and group therapy with children, adolescents, students, and adults; psychological evaluations with children, adolescents, and adults; couples and family therapy; short-term counseling interventions; crisis intervention/counseling; and career counseling. Most of my experiences involved working with underrepresented and underserved populations and working with people from diverse backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, sexual and gender identity, age, socioeconomic status, religion, national origin, and physical ability, with wide variation in clinical presentations. I have worked in community mental health agencies, university counseling centers, and intensive residential treatment.

My areas of clinical interest include trauma, anxiety, depression, problems with adjustment, relationship concerns, and multiculturism and social justice. My clinical approach is based on an integrative theoretical framework that is informed by multicultural, trauma-based, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal approaches. I value creating a safe, inclusive therapeutic space that recognizes the unique perspective of one’s culture and impact of various experiences on current functioning.

Leisurely, I enjoy viewing and discussing interesting (and scary!) movies. I love engaging in “retail therapy”, especially with family and friends. I also enjoy reading, being active, dining out, trying new restaurants and foods, and spending time with family.
