KU School of Nursing faces off against Philadelphia counterpart in Super Bowl spirit showdown
With the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, the two nursing schools are vying to see which can rally the most support for their hometown team.

Educating students for evolving roles in nursing. Discovering new knowledge for health care practice. Applying expertise to serve the global community.
And — for a little pre-game fun — swapping stethoscopes for spirit-wear to beat a rival nursing school in a Super Bowl “Spirit Showdown.”
The University of Kansas School of Nursing is expanding on its mission this week after accepting the challenge from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. With the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, the two nursing schools are vying to see which can rally the most support for their hometown team.
“KU School of Nursing is always up for a challenge,” said KU School of Nursing dean Jean Foret Giddens, Ph.D., FAAN. “For most NFL teams it’s rare to make it to the Big Game, much less three in a row. But not for Coach Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and their crew. I’m fully confident the Kansas City Chiefs will prevail, and I’ll get to collect on our wager. Go Chiefs!”
The goal is to show the most campus community members in either Chiefs red or Eagles green this week, proven by photographic evidence on social media. The winning school gets bragging rights. The losing school must send the winners food unique to their city — and their nursing school dean must post a photo of herself wearing a T-shirt from the rival team.
Giddens said the challenge is a fun way to rally KU School of Nursing students, faculty, staff and community.
The KU School of Nursing team kicked off the challenge in a group photo full of Chiefs gear and pom-poms, with a boost from Kansas City, Missouri, native rapper Tech N9ne’s Chiefs-inspired song playing in the background — “Welcome to the Red Kingdom!”
