Professional Background

Austin Armstrong, M.D. received his Doctor of Medicine at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, where he also completed his residency training in psychiatry.

Dr. Armstrong’s clinical interest is in reproductive psychiatry and digital mental health, in which he plans to develop research and clinical pursuits. Dr. Armstrong serves as an attending for the Ascension Via Christi Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and the KU Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Clinic.

Dr. Armstrong is dedicated to medical education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He serves as the Director of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry, overseeing the third year Psychiatry Clerkship as well as fourth year Sub-Internship and electives. He also supports medical student education as a PBL facilitator and coach in his role as an Assistant Director for the Jager Society. Dr. Armstrong is also a core faculty member for the psychiatry residency program, contributing through clinical supervision, recruitment, and committee service. Across these roles, he promotes professional development and education through clinical teaching, supervision, and mentorship across the continuum of medical training.
