Professional Background
Dr. Amy J. Petty is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Associate Program Director of Trainee Research in the Division of Dermatology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is the current institutional principal investigator for the United States Cutaneous Lymphoma Consortium. She is a Board-Certified Dermatologist who is skilled in General Dermatology and has an interest in treating skin cancers including Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, cutaneous eruptions from chemotherapy or immunotherapy, and other complex dermatologic conditions.
Dr. Petty earned her MD and PhD from the Duke University School of Medicine, where her doctoral research focused on cancer immunology and immunotherapy. She then completed her Dermatology residency at Duke University Medical Center, where she served as Education Chief Resident and was recognized with both the J. Lamar Callaway Resident Teaching Award and the Russell Hall Excellence in Professionalism Award.
In addition to providing care to patients, Dr. Petty is deeply committed to education and mentorship. She has served in leadership roles supporting medical education and research training.
Research
Overview
Dr. Petty's current research program focuses on the immunologic and molecular mechanisms underlying inflammatory and neoplastic skin disorders, including cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, cutaneous graft-versus-host disease, high-risk skin cancer, among others. Her work has been published in leading journals such as JAAD, JEADV, JID Innovations, Blood Advances, JCI, JCI Insight, and Clinical and Experimental Dermatology. Dr. Petty's translational research during PhD training was supported by the competitive NIH/NCI Ruth L. Kirschstein F30 fellowship. She has received national recognition for her scientific contributions, including the American Academy of Dermatology’s Everett B. Fox Memorial Award for Basic Science Research.
