Reproductive Laboratory Services at
the Women’s Reproductive Center, University of Kansas Medical Center
Andrology laboratory
All Andrology laboratory tests are available by appointment only.
With a physician’s order, patients may call the lab directly 913-588-6276 to schedule the following Andrology tests:
- Semen analysis
- Strict sperm morphology
- Viability staining
- Post vasectomy check
- Anti-sperm antibodies
- Semen cryopreservation and storage
The Andrology laboratory also provides the following services in collaboration with your practice:
- Semen preparation for Intrauterine
Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)- Sperm identification during sperm aspirations
- Donor sperm storage and processing
Sample requirements:
Semen testing requires 2-4 days abstinence from intercourse or ejaculation. Samples must be produced on site at our private collection room.
Endocrinology laboratory
Endocrine laboratory services are available upon receipt of a physician’s
order and a properly labeled serum sample.*
To coordinate sample delivery for the following procedures, call the lab at 913-588-6276.
- ß hCG—pregnancy determination and monitoring
- Estradiol—stimulation cycle monitoring and other diagnosis
- Follicle stimulating hormone—ovarian function, spermatogenesis
- Luteinizing hormone—ovulation monitoring, androgen production
- Progesterone—luteal phase monitoring
- Prolactin—pituitary function
- DHEA-S—adrenal function
- 17- alpha OH progesterone— adrenal function
- Testosterone—gonadal function
Prenatal screening:
The Endocrinology laboratory also performs the following prenatal screening: triple screen, Alphafetoprotein (AFP), estriol, and ß hCG.To arrange these tests, call the Maternal Fetal Medical division at 913-588-6251.
*Serum Sample requirements:
Blood must be collected in a 10 mL red- or tiger-top tube. Allow to clot 20-30 minutes, centrifuge 10 minutes. Pour off serum into a separate tube and cap tightly. Label tube with name, date, and test to be performed. Please send a minimum of 2 mL serum (5 mL for prenatal screening.)Phlebotomy services are also available on site to facilitate the collection of samples.
Embryology laboratory
Our Embryology laboratory performs a variety of advanced assisted reproductive
technologies, including:
- In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Embryo Transfer
- Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
- Sperm retrieval, identification, processing and cryopreservation
- Embryo (including Blastocyst) culture, cryopreservation, storage, thawing and transfer

KU Medical Center will provide individualized, compassionate care to all patients who are undergoing reproductive procedures through our Embryology laboratory.

The Reproductive Laboratories at KU Medical Center offer a full range of services, including andrology, endocrinology and embryology procedures.
Our laboratories are directed by Dr. Li Meng, PhD, a leading expert in micromanipulation, in vitro oocyte maturation, and preimplantation genetics diagnosis (PGD).
A board certified andrologist/ embryologist is also available, to offer you the clinical precision you would expect from the region’s premier academic medical center. And unlike large, corporate laboratories, we offer rapid turn-around time for laboratory results. To request testing, simply contact the appropriate laboratory.
