Faculty Leadership Academy (FLA) for KUMC Faculty

The Faculty Leadership Academy (FLA) is a joint effort of the University of Kansas School of Medicine and the University of Kansas Hospital. Its purpose is to help improve the management and leadership skills of physician and basic science faculty members. Attendees are nominated by their respective department chairs.  The course of study for each attendee spans two academic years, with four "core" courses per year, each of which is a half-day in length.

AAMC Group on Women in Medicine & Science (GWIMS)

The University of Kansas Women in Medicine & Science (WIMS) Organization is in alliance with GWIMS in medical schools across the country through its AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) affiliation. GWIMS supports the growth and successful careers for physicians and basic scientists.

AAMC Women Faculty Professional Development Seminars

• Mid-Career Seminar
  The Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar is a three and a half-day program designed for women primarily at the associate professor level. Women in the early stages of a professorial appointment will be considered on an individual basis.
• Early Career Seminar
  This three-day and a half day professional development seminar is designed for women at the assistant professor or instructor level. The program focuses on academic medicine career building and enhancing basic management, leadership, and communication skills.

KU WIMS offers two scholarships to support our SOM women faculty members who wish to attend the Early Career or Mid-Career Seminar.

Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM)

Established in 1995, ELAM offers an intensive one-year program of leadership training with extensive coaching, networking and mentoring opportunities aimed at expanding the national pool of qualified women candidates for leadership in academic medicine, dentistry and public health. Foundation for the History of Women in Medicine

The Foundation, based in Philadelphia, offers two fellowships to support research related to the history of women in medicine. The deadline for applications is in March and awards are announced in May. For details visit their website at http://fhwim.org/programs/fellowships.php
