The University of Kansas Women in Science and Medicine (WIMS) organization, located on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus in Kansas City, Kansas, is committed to serve all faculty and trainees from the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and the School of Health Professions. Our mission is focused on advancing the careers of women in the fields of medicine and science, nursing nad health professions through development of and honing their leadership skills from mentoring and networking opportunities. Our goals are to increase the number of women faculty new hires, increase the rate of women faculty promotions and increase our retention of women faculty members through greater job satisfaction.
To achieve our goals, we provide programs for professional career development, educational seminars, and presentations on physical and mental health-related topics, in addtion to social/networking events. Our infrastructure is comprised of officers, chairs and members from five committees and various sub-groups, with member representatives from each of the three schools on campus and a team of support staff volunteers to help us accomplish our goals by handling tasks behind the scenes.
