KUMC Homepage Explained

The design of the KUMC homepage provides users with multiple ways of accessing information - by audience type, subject/mission area, alphabetical, and task. This page should not be mistaken for any other on the KUMC web site. No office, school, department, or student organization should mimic its design. The regions are broken down and explained, below.

  1. Masthead/Header - Main information links and KUMC logo, with links to affiliated KU and Hospital sites, site index & help, and search functions. Critical announcements, such as inclement weather, will replace the fading text in emergency situations.
  2. Mission-focused - links to main mission areas of KUMC - the schools, research, and patient care.
  3. Quick Links/Traffic-Driven Links - Links to important areas of KUMC that span across organizational boundaries, such as Computing, Jobs, Phone & Email Directory, and Charitable Giving.
  4. myKUMC login - direct access to log in to myKUMC, where students, staff, and faculty can customize their preferences for receiving announcements, check grades, and view pay advices, among many other services.
  5. General Interest Photo - This is a photo meant to drive interest in KUMC. It should be mission-focused and professional. The photos will be rotated on a frequent basis and are not meant to tie into a particular event or news item. Contact Kate Lee, Director of University Relations, for questions and comments regarding this photo.
  6. KUMC Highlights - News articles highlighting key aspects of KUMC will be positioned here. Articles are written and managed by University Relations and will be rotated in and out on a frequent basis. No more or less than seven articles are to be run at any given time. Ideally, articles here are not time-sensitive and have interesting accompanying photos. Contact Kate Lee for more information.
  7. Featured Sites - This will consist of approximately five links to KUMC sites that University Relations and the EVC's office want to highlight. These will rotate on a frequent basis and are not meant to be permanent links. They should be accessible from other locations on the KUMC site. For consideration of a site to be featured, contact Jameson Watkins, Director of Internet Development, who will work with University Relations on scheduling issues and ensure consistency.
  8. Events Calendar - the day's events that are scheduled to occur within approximately four hours of the current time. Events are taken directly from the online Campus Events Calendar. KUMC affliates can add their own event by using the Submit Event button.
  9. Audience-focused Links - Links to pages featuring information targeted at specific groups of users.
  10. Browse - Alphabetic listing of all KUMC sites. This and the site index are generated directly from the online phone and email directory using the URLs supplied by unit directory contacts.
  11. Campus News - Latest headlines from articles created by University Relations. For more information, contact Kate Lee.
