Wyandot Development Corporation Minutes (Wyandotte County Economic Development Council)

Board Members Present: Mayor Steve Breneman-Chair, Mayor Carol Marinovich, Mayor Luther Pickell, Bob Milan

Board Members Absent: Commissioner Tom Cooley

Others Present: Marcia Ashford, Ron Cobb, Wayne Franklin, LaVert Murray, Mike Sauruk, Doug Spangler

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Breneman at approximately 11:20 a.m.

Approval of Minutes
 

The minutes of the October 16, 2002 meeting were unanimously approved by motion from Mayor Marinovich and second by Bob Milan.

Citizen’s Planning Committee (CPC) Update Ron Cobb reported that the CPC has been partnering with USD 500 to work on a new program concerning student behavior and school safety. A meeting was held with approximately 95 students in October 2002 and a meeting was held with approximately 92 parents in January 2003. Teacher input will also be sought. The group will meet next week to summarize the information gathered from these two meetings. Based upon findings and the ability to partner with other agencies, they would like to implement this new program next school year.

Mr. Cobb reported that the CPC has several new members. They will be reassessing core issues during the next 2 months and will provide a report to the WCEDC board at their next meeting.

Treasurer’s Report
 

Treasurer reports ending September 30, 2002 and December 31, 2002 were provided for review and consideration for approval. Mayor Marinovich made a motion to approve the two Treasurer’s Reports ending September 30, 2002 and December 31, 2002. Mayor Pickell seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.

No information was provided on the Director and Officer Liability Insurance.

Host Report: City of Edwardsville
 

Mayor Pickell provided an update on economic development for the City of Edwardsville, which included discussion of a casino, new industries that have opened during the last two years, housing, and proposed commercial developments.

Mike Sauruk from the WyandotteTribe, reported briefly on state and federal efforts being undertaken regarding the casino.

Other Business
 

Next Meeting Date - Wednesday, April 16, 2003, YMCA, hosted by the City of Bonner Springs.
