Wyandotte County
Citizens Planning Committee

Background
Wyandotte County strategic planning began in 1989, sponsored by the Wyandotte County Economic Development Council. Citizens were asked to determine our most important future issues and to lead the way in making good thing happen.
A five year plan was developed focusing on education, business development, local government, and neighborhoods. As a result, many new things happened between 1990 and 1995, including:
Wyandotte Development, Inc.
City/County Interlocal Agreement
The Neighborhood Cooperative
The Communication Hub
The 1992 All-America City Award
The Working Neighborhoods Project
The Best of Wyandotte Celebration

Update
"Vision 2000", a new Five-Year plan, was created in 1995. The Citizens Planning Committee spent six months listening to people's dreams for our county. Then in September, 250 citizens came to Reardon Center to chart the course of the year 2000.
Those citizens designed new strategies, the Wyandotte County Economic Development Council said "yes" to the new plan, and the Wyandotte County Commission provided funds to implement Vision 2000.
