The 2014 United Way Campaign - October 1-31

United Way 2014

Nov. 10 wrap up update: KU Medical Center, The University of Kansas Hospital, and The University of Kansas Physicians raised $222,831.77 for this year's joint campaign. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this great cause! And a special thank you to the United Way Ambassadors (see names in the right column), who worked tirelessly on the campaign throughout October.

Congratulations to the below employees who won prizes during the campaign:

$10 Chili's gift card: Christina Pacheco, Family Medicine
$15 Panera gift card: Joanne McNair, Preventive Medicine and Public Health

Oct. 20 campaign update: As of Oct. 16, we have raised more than $117,000. We still have a long way to go to meet our goal of $288,882 – the amount we could raise if every employee donated $1 per pay period. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to date!

Employees who made an early-bird pledge Oct. 1–8 were entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes. Congratulations to the following employees whose names were drawn:

  • 2 Holiday Mart tickets: Luz Conde, Electrophysiology Lab; Bart Albers, Organizational Improvement; Laura Bohlman, HITS; and Mollee Enko, Preventive Medicine
  • Halloween basket with candy: Christoph Stramel, Respiratory Therapy
  • $25 Olive Garden gift card: Carmen Reed, Neuroscience Telemetry
  • $25 AMC gift card: Marj Kupka, KU MedWest
  • United Way branded merchandise: William Sprague, Budget; and Jackie Smith, KUCC–Lee's Summit

Be a superhero and win! More prizes will be given away during this year's campaign.

Oct. 13 campaign update: The University of Kansas Hospital's cafeteria will be offering lunch specials Oct. 14–17. The cafeteria will have a "Hero Sandwich" and a choice of chips or whole fruit and a 20 ounce fountain beverage or 20 ounce bottled water for $5.39. One dollar of each combo sold will go to United Way. Contact Cassandra Mothelesi, cafeteria manager, at 913-588-2903 with questions.

Oct. 1: KU Medical Center, The University of Kansas Hospital, and The University of Kansas Physicians are proud to be working together again in a campus-wide partnership to support United Way of Wyandotte County.

Our employees can relate to this year's theme – Live Heroic – because it's something you do every day, all without superhuman strength or magical powers. Whether you know it or not, you are someone's hero. Perhaps you're a hero to your children, your students, your patients, or your neighbors, simply through your giving and caring nature. This year's theme is about the powerful hero in all of us!

Our campaign will also focus on the power of a dollar. If every employee pledged just $1 per pay period (that's less than the cost of a cup of coffee) - a total of $26 a year - we could raise $288,882 to help people get back on their feet. United Way and its agencies work with people in our community to encourage financial stability, improve education, and promote healthy lifestyles, and they rely on heroes like you to fund these efforts.

You should have received an e-pledge email from United Way on Oct. 1. Please take a few moments to pledge your financial support. Through our combined efforts – with as little as $1 per paycheck – we can make our community better and further improve the lives of those in our community.

If you did not receive an email from United Way, contact Cheryl Adler. For more information on United Way of Wyandotte County, visit the website.
