Suggestion: Regarding the elevators on the 5th floor of the Bluff Parking Structure, a mirror carefully placed to reflect the north elevator would be helpful. Currently, it is impossible to see both elevator doors to determine the available car after the button has been pushed.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. Our Director of Parking Services just checked the area of concern. It does appear to be a blind spot and will have a mirror put into place. Thank you. (2007-12-17 14:41:03.0)
Suggestion: Ever since you banned smoking in your hospital, your employees have taken over the bus shelters on the south side of 39th and the east side of Rainbow. These bus shelters have been become virtual smoking dens. I live nearby and rely on the bus system for transportation. The actions of your employees have made it very difficult for me to wait for a bus without being assaulted by second hand smoke. All you have done is shifted the problem from the hospital onto the sidewalk. It's highly ironic that my cancer risk is now elevated because I have to wait for the bus next door to a hospital.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. It is unfortunate that some KUMC employees are utilizing city bus shelters to smoke. The reality is that the KU Medical Center has no jurisdiction or authority over the city sidewalks or the bus shelters. The bus shelters belong to the Kansas City Area Transit Authority (KCATA), and therefore, any complaints regarding activities in or around those shelters should be directed to that agency. KCATA's webpage with contact information is at: http://www.kcata.org/contact_us.html KCATA has a phone number specifically for making comments/complaints regarding bus shelters themselves: (816) 346-0845, and the KCATA general contact email address is: metro@kcata.org (2007-04-05 10:58:47.0)
Suggestion: You need to shovel the sidewalks on 39th between Cambridge and State Line Road, and on State Line Road between 39th and 41st. These have not been shoveled like the rest of your sidewalks, but are very heavily used by visitors and employees. They are very hazardous.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Suggestion Box. These sidewalks should have been addressed by now. If the problem continues, please bring it to our attention again. Thanks. (2007-01-22 14:40:04.0)
