Suggestion: I suggest that you include on your website the list of seminars from the various departments and organizations such as Sigma Xi and Biological Life Sciences that are not in a particular department. I know there are numerous people in the area who would come if they knew what was going on. For example, scientists at other local institutions such as UMKC, the Stowers Institute, and MidAmerical Neuroscience Research Foundation. The Biochemistry schedule is available on line, for example, but I have been unable to find the schedule for Research Day anywhere. You could start with just posting the weekly schedule. This would go a long way to increasing the scientific interactions in the city.

Response: Thank you for your comments and interest in our seminars. We do have a Campus Events Calendar on our web site (http://www.kumc.edu)and we encourage all departments to use it. The events for each day are just a click away from the home page. The Medical Center also publishes a weekly calendar. That publication can be found on our web site by selecting the Guide to find a KUMC publication and then selecting the Weekly Calendar. Or you can go directly to http://www2.kumc.edu/publications/weekly/. Thank you again for your interest. - Cheryl Pace, Assistant Director for Information Services, x7321 (2000-01-27 14:07:00.0)

Suggestion: Would you please kindly direct me to where I can find the following information. I am looking for info regarding Exams Info American Boards in Internal Medicine - Edibility for exam. and also, Medical Administration Degrees / Programmes.

Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. By copy of this reply to Connie Kramer, Internal Medicine Department, I am asking her to get back with you regarding information on exams, information on the American Boards in Internal Medicine and the eligibility for an exam. Regarding your second question on "Medical Administration Degrees / Programmes," our School of Allied Health offers "Health Information Management," I am not sure if this is what you are looking for. If so, let me know and I will refer your question to the School of Allied Health or you can go to their web site at http://www2.kumc.edu/sah/him/. If not, the University of Kansas in Lawrence may be able to help you with the medical administration degree. Their web site is www.ukans.edu. Thank you. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, (913) 588-1440 (2000-01-27 14:00:00.0)

Suggestion: I placed a copy of the following suggestion in the box outside of the former cafeteria. I am not sure if the Hospital and the University both read the note left there so I am sending this. The metal "sawhorse" used to stop visitors from attempting to enter the Olathe parking facility when it is full could use a bit of reburbishing. The metal is a tad rusty. Perhaps a nice coat of crimson and blue paint might make it look ready for the New Year. I think our sign shop could produce a legible sign indicating that the garage is full. The sign might also remind our customers of the additional parking available at the Cambridge garage. Currently a piece of white paper with pencil/pen lettering is often used to indicate that Olathe is full. It is difficult to read and is not professional.I realize that we have many roles to play in the community. We do many things (education, research and medical treatment)very well. We also have only one opportunity to make a fine first impression. When our visitors and patients come here they may be under a great deal of stress. Finding a parking place at the Medical Center can become a frustration in the best of times. A legible, presentable sign will not cure anything; however, it might be a source of relief.I will go one step further under the heading of when dreaming ----- dream BIG. The Alumni Association might look into donating a couple of electric "message boards" to place over the public entrances on the Olathe and Cambridge garages. A blue framed sign sporting the Jay Doc logo could have red letters scrolling across it. Various messages could "Welcome" our guests, advise them of the availability of parking spaces, tell them of the other garages or lots that are open and so on.The point of the rambling suggestion is simple. We need to be intentional in our communication with the public. We must not appear to have slapped together a sign using whatever materials were handy. Our years of training in programs like Caring is the Key through the team efforts of the university and the hospital authority have taught us that it is often the little things that count.

Response: Thank you for using the Pulse Suggestion Box. I forwarded your suggestion to our director of Parking and Landscape Services. Mr. Johnson told me that the signs you suggest are something he has considered before, and they certainly have merit. Last week, one of our Parking Services employees attended a National Parking Convention and she was asked to gather new information on the electronic signs. Thank you for your suggestion. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, x1440 (2000-01-27 13:57:00.0)

Suggestion: The Medical Center lists its open positions....why can't we access the job list for the Hospital Authority, KUPI, etc???

Response: We are currently working on our own web page. Hopefully this will get accomplished soon. Thanks for your inquiry. - Jan White, Employment & Employee Relations Director, Human Resources - Hospital (2000-01-27 13:55:00.0)

Suggestion: I work from 7a-7:30p and at times we have to wait as long as 20-30 mins to get a ride in the PM. This is very fustrating after working 12 hours to spend an additional time waiting on transportation to my vehicle. Could the shuttle run later or maybe have schedule pickup times between 7p-8p?

Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. The following reply was provided by our Parking Services director..."Funding for the Shuttle Bus is extremely limited. Thus, service is scheduled during the peak morning and evening hours. Escorts are available at all times, some delay may be evident, but the average waiting time for escorts is 5 minutes or less. Over 15,000 persons used the Escort Service during the first 6 months of 1999." - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, x1440 (2000-01-27 13:54:00.0)

Suggestion: Lack of direction on the freeway to KU Med Center for people from out of town

Response: Thank you for your concern. Approximately three years ago (June, 1994), the Executive Vice Chancellor's Office worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation on installing highway signage. Highway signage was installed both directions at I-35 & 7th Street, I-70 & 7th Street and US-56 & Rainbow Blvd. Which freeway are you talking about when you say "Lack of direction on the freeway to KU Med Center for people from out of town."? Thanks, Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, x1440 (2000-01-25 11:17:00.0)
