Suggestion: I was curious to know why the parking spaces throughout the KUMC campus are so small? These spaces are easilest some of the narrowest spaces I have seen in Kansas City. I have talked to numerous people throughout KUMC and many people feel the same way. I have been parking in the Red lot for six months and in that time, my vehicle has been dented and dinged more than 5 times in the parking lot. Thank you.
Response: Thank you for using the Pulse Suggestion Box. I contacted our director of Parking Services and here is the reply I received. "The width of the spaces varies by lot. They range from 7 - 9 feet. Obviously, narrower spaces allows for a greater number of spaces in the lot. However, width is determined at the time of surfacing or resurfacing. Thus, any change will be performed as a part of the particular lots resurfacing (schedule varies by location)." - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, 1440 (1999-10-23 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Provide an annually current list of the Holidays, with its link on the KUMC home page.
Response: Thanks for using the Pulse Suggestion Box. I did check with our Human Resources to find out if the holidays are listed out on Pulse. They told me "If you go to Pulse, click on resources, and then calendars. You will then see the 1999-2000 holiday calendar." Hope this helps. Thanks, Deb Brogden, Office of the EVC, x1440 (1999-10-23 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Please inform web searchers if the KU School of Medicine didactic courses are based in Lawrence or Kansas City. I realize the KU Medical Center is at Kansas City, but what about the first years of training? Are they at Lawrence? More specifically if an individual pursues a physcian degree at KU, how much time, if any, is spent learning at Lawrence?
Response: Thank you for using the Pulse Suggestion Box. The following reply was provided by our School of Medicine Admissions Office. "All of the first two years of medical school at the University of Kansas are at the Medical Center, 39th and Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS. In the third and fourth year, approximately 50 students from each class go to Wichita for their clinical rotations. None of the medical school classes are on the Lawrence campus." - Thank you, Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, (913) 588-1440 (1999-10-23 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Do we have a list of Auditoriums listed with the bldg. and floor they are on? I checked the hard copy directory and found Clendening Amphitheater as the only one listed with a room number.
Response: The following website: http://www2.kumc.edu/instruction/academicsupport/ITS%20Rooms/centrall.htm contains information about the auditoriums (including a photo) as well as the other centrally scheduled rooms. Unfortunately it does not contain the room numbers for the auditoriums. These room numbers are: Battenfeld: 1003 Student Center, Rieke: B008 Orr Major, Wahl East: G010 Wahl Hall East, Sudler: 3015 Sudler Auditorium, Wahl West: 1006 Wahl Hall West, Clendening: 2004 Robinson, Lied: G032 Lied Biomedical Research Building. I will pass on the suggestion that this information be added to the webpage. - Thanks, Catherine Kinsey, Instructional Support, x7326 (1999-10-23 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: I have been parking in Yellow Lot #97 since I started working here in late May. The red lot it borders on has never been full since that time (I've checked it at different times of the day and this emptiness exists at all times as far as I can tell). There must be at least 200-300 spaces in that vicinity alone that remain empty, yet I am assured there is a waiting list for the red zone that is over 300 people. I don't understand why this is so. Are these particular spaces always held open? Please explain. Thank you.
Response: Each parking zone and lot have unique dynamics, that is that each have to be managed somewhat differently. Yes, it is true that a considerable number of spaces are empty in the north end of lot 99. However, the number varies by the time of day and day of week. Total Red permits sold exceed the available Red spaces by 20%. Thus, it becomes a balancing act to make sure that the proper mix to obtained (experience says that better to have some empty , rather than no spaces available). There will always be some empty spaces in Red Lot 99, simply because it is the furthest away from the complex. Parking Services is currently calling (112 persons) from the Red waiting list in hopes of finding the "proper mix". It's not an exact science and a number of factors have to be considered. But, I can assure you that usage surveys of the lots are performed weekly and adjustments are made as appropriate. Currently, the average waiting time for Red is about 6 months. I hope I have answered your question. - Rick Johnson, Director of Public Safety (1999-10-01 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: You need to provide an easier way to find tution rates.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. The tuition rates can be located on the Student Services Department homepage. The site that summarizes all of the tuition information is called Financial Aid. The page is athttp://www2.kumc.edu/studserv/costof.htm. I hope this information is helpful to you. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, (913) 588-1440 (1999-08-18 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Thank you SO MUCH for adding the speed bumps to Olathe street outside the Olathe Pavilion entrance to KUMC. There have been more than a few times I was nearly mowed over by cars that sped thru the intersection, both ignoring the flashingyellow light and the pedestrian crosswalk. This was a badly needed improvement. Thank you again. -A KUMC employee.
Response: You're very welcome. (1999-08-18 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: How to recycle at KUMC? (Paper, mostly, but also other materials)
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. Currently KUMC is recycling white office paper, mixed paper, and cardboard. Recycling is done on a volunteer basis. You need to take your paper recycling to the main receiving dock. Environmental Services will take your cardboard boxes to the cardboard compactor, which is also located at the receiving dock. Please breakdown the boxes if you can. The white office paper recycling bin is located on the west side of the dock, at the end of the ramp and to your left. The mixed paper bins are located on the dock, right outside the receiving office. These bins have lids and are on rollers. I would be happy to show you the location of these bins, just let me know. Thank you for recycling. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, x1440 (1999-08-18 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Check to confirm your listing of zip code. Listing says 66160. I used to live in kc, are you sure it's not 66106? Thanks.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. Yes, 66160 is the correct zip code for KUMC. The zip code is unique and is for KUMC only. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, (913) 588-1440 (1999-08-18 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: I would really benefit from a directory of faculty, staff and students at all the kansas u facilities. I was unable to locate one.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. There are two ways that you can find a directory of KUMC faculty, staff and students. 1) How to Contact Us on the home page and then select KUMC On-line Telephone & Email Directory. 2) On the home page click on Resources and then Telephone Directory. Thank you, Debra Brogden, Office of the EVC, (913) 588-1440 (1999-06-02 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: I can't seem to find the zip code for Lawrence, KS listed anywhere on your web site. It is frustrating to log on hoping to find the address to send materials to a professor and not be able to find the zip code easily.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. The Lawrence zip code is listed under the University of Kansas Home Page. From the KUMC Home Page you would click on Resources, click on University of Kansas, click on Main Campus, then scroll down a little ways and click on The University of Kansas address and selected phone numbers and you will find the zip code for Lawrence. - Debra Brogden, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, (913) 588-1440 (1999-06-02 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: My suggestion is for more yellow parking spaces. What are the people in the yellow parking zones to do when all the spaces are full? I, along with 4 other people received a ticket for parking in the red spaces that were directly next the first yellow parking space in the yellow zone. The closest red stickered car parked in this red zone was 25 spaces away. The parking lot I am referring to is the one located behind Dykes Library. I don't have a problem paying the ticket, but what are we to do when there are no yellow parking spaces and 75 unused red spaces that are left empty every day?
Response: The Medical Center has three Yellow lots. The newest lot, located on Booth Street has 300 spaces. On any day, fewer than 30 cars are in the lot. Each of the Yellow lots are serviced by the Shuttle Bus. Depending on the time of day and day of week, the Red spaces lot of the Library are close to capacity. This is the furthest (from the main complex) Red parking, so it will always be the last to be occupied. Thank you for using the Pulse suggestion box. - Rick Johnson, Director, Medical Center Police (1999-06-02 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: I think you need to tell the costs of Insulin in your site it would be very helpful in the understanding of diebetes patients.
Response: I am responding to your suggestion sent to Pulse regarding the price of insulin. We have attempted to help patients and the medical staff with pharmacy economics via listing many of the common price codes of different therapeuticcategories in the KUMC Formulary book. This will also be placed on our web page for our 99-00 printing in order to give better access. The dilema is that we have had to useprice codes (relative ranges) rather than the exact price because pricies from KUMC vs other pharmacies often vary and of course prices change during the year. We did notinclude the insulin prices in this section; only the oral hypoglycemics. We can add insulin in this section at the next printing per your suggestion. However, again, it will probably be a relative range vs the exact price because of my comments above. Lastly, if you do need the KUMC exact prices of insulin, please e-mail me and I will provide them to you. Please indicate which type of insulin(s). Thanks for your suggestion. Harold Godwin, Director of Pharmacy (1999-06-02 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Hello. I came across your hospital web site and thought your hospital bookstore or patient information center might be interested in my web site. I wrote a book called "Invisible Illnesses and Disabilities", which people with many different disorders, including Meniere's disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and head injuries, have read and found helpful. I, myself had a head injury resulting in inner ear problems for over 7 years now. My book was intended to help other sufferers with "invisible" types of illnesses, as well as their families, friends, co-workers and care workers. If you'd like to take a look at some information about the book you can view my web page at http://home.att.net/~Smith-Merritt and feel free to e-mail me if you have questions. It may be something you could pass on to other folks too. Thanks for your time!
Response: Thank you for your interest and sharing your book information. The KUMC Bookstore does, in fact, support materials provided by independent writers. The normalprocedure is for our textbook manager to review the published book to determine whether it is appropriate for sales within our store. Once that decision is made, and it is positive, the manager will arrange to have some titles brought into the store on a consignment basis after a mutual agreement is determined regarding retail pricing/discounts involved etc. Once a month, sales will be determined and a check will be sent to the author. If no sales occur after a period of time, the books will be returned to you. Our book buyer will contact you in the near future. Thanks again. - Ralph Bock, Manager, KUMC Bookstore (1999-04-13 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: I recently experienced minor health problems and don't have a local physician. My father, a retired psychiatrist, suggested trying the med center. I have been very impressed with the people, and service I have received; very little waiting, organized, and friendly positive people. Dr. Jarrin has been wonderful and I don't think I have ever dealt with an outfit as large as kumc that runs as smoothly. Thank you and keep it up.
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box and letting us know we are doing a good job. (1999-04-13 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Thanks for the new shuttle. How about reversing the order in which the lots are serviced before returning to the hospital?
Response: Thank you for using the KUMC Pulse Suggestion Box. I asked our director of Parking Services to address your suggestion. His reply: "The morning route has two drop off locations. Orr-Major bus stop and the front of KU Hospital. In order to utilize the Orr-Major stop, the bus must travel east on 39th Ave. The sequence and direction is based on being able to accommodate this stop and keep the waiting times at each stop to a minimum. Several routes were considered and driven before deciding on the current schedule. However, it is a new program and we continue to monitor for ways to further enhance the service. For now, it seems to be working as planned." Thank you, Debra Brogden, Office of the EVC. (1999-03-26 11:18:00.0)
Suggestion: Would it kill you to put your phone number for connecting with patients on your web site. You provide tons of information but nothing so basic as your phone number.
Response: This phone number is on our web site and we're sorry you had trouble finding it. On the home page, just click on "How to Contact Us". The patient information number is included in the list of Frequently Called Numbers. (1999-03-26 11:18:00.0)
