I am a full-time psychologist at Student Counseling and Education Support Services (SCESS) at The University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC).  After completing my training at an accredited university (University of Missouri at Kansas City), I started at KUMC in 2002 following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wyoming.  As an undergraduate, I graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with an enriched BA in Psychology, an emphasis on child development.  I have six years experience counseling university students and their family members.  I present to university students and community members on subjects including stress management, testing anxiety, date rape, conflict resolution, communication skills, sexual decision making, team building and diversity.  Special areas of interest include sexual disorders, sexual orientation (gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender), women’s issues, eating disorders, sexual abuse recovery, grief, relationship concerns, domestic violence, mood disorders and personality differences.  In addition, I have been very involved with sexual harassment education and prevention.  I am also responsible for training and supervising all practicum students at SCESS.

I take a great deal of pleasure in my work.  I enjoy the motivation and intellect of the students and residents at KUMC.  I believe in the power of the human spirit to heal itself.  I work toward empowering folks to make the changes they see as necessary.  I see the therapist/client relationship as being a partnership in which the client takes the lead.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with her husband, Mark, and my two year old son, Rhett.  I love to cook, garden, listen to live music, ride my bike and hang with friends.  I also dabble in photography and painting as hobbies.
