All Counseling and Educational Support Services are provided by qualified staff members within the guidelines of the professional standards and ethical codes of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, and the Association of Marriage & Family Therapy. All services are provided in the strictest confidence as mandated by law. Personal information cannot be disclosed to anyone, except for professional consultation or supervision, without your specific, written permission. Written and electronic records of visits and related clinical notes are kept in restricted, locked or encrypted files, and unauthorized access to these files is prohibited. Records do not become a part of students’ academic, medical, administrative, or financial records.
Department staff work collaboratively and use a team approach when serving students, residents and fellows. The department psychologists, psychiatrist, and learning specialists access client information for the purpose of coordinating efforts and providing those we serve with a comprehensive experience.
Because of legal and ethical mandates, confidentiality is not guaranteed if you are found to be in clear and imminent danger to yourself or to another person, if you report current abuse of a child or dependent adult, or if your records are subpoenaed by a court of law.
If you have any questions regarding the privacy and confidentiality practices of our department, please contact Larry Long, Jr., Ph.D., Senior Director, at llong@kumc.edu or (913) 588-6587.
