Dear KUMC Students:
We have been seeing many cases of influenza-like illness at the Student Health Center.
Flu symptoms usually come on quickly and consist of a high fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and muscle aches
Remember that if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, it is better to act fast and speak to a health care provider within 12 to 48 hours. Flu can be a serious illness. In some people, the flu can cause serious complications, including bacterial pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions.
To prevent flu transmission:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If you are not near water, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
- Stay away as much as you can from people who are sick.
- If you get the flu, stay home from work or school. If you are sick, do not go near other people so that you don't make them sick.
- Try not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs often spread this way.
