Allied Health

Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program

This award is for accepted U.S. citizens in medical, nursing and allied health programs. Students receiving this award receive more than $17,000 annually for up to four years. The award pays all tuition, books, and most fees and provides a monthly stipend while attending school. AMBUCS Scholarship

U.S. citizens in financial need, in pursuits of completing the following programs: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology or Hearing Audiology. Applicant must express intent to enter clinical practice in chosen field. For more information applications are located online @ www.ambucs.org. Deadline April 15.

AmeriCorps

This educational award allows KUMC students to kick their debt and meet the needs of the surrounding communities. In exchange for completing ten to twelve months of full-time service with AmeriCorps, students earn an education award of $4,725 to help pay for college or pay back student loans. ASCLS Minority Scholarship

This award is for students entering an NAACLS accredited program in Clinical Laboratory Sciences to include Clinical Laboratory Sciences/ Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Technician Program. This person must demonstrate financial need and be a minority student. Applications are located @ www.ascls.org/leadership/awards/fcm.asp. Deadline is April 1.

Christine Dolecheck Medical Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a medical, nursing, or allied health student who is a legal resident of Ellsworth County. For more information and/or an application, please contact Heather Y. Barta at (785) 472-3141. Deadline is April 1.

Dade Behring

Elizabeth Miller Watkins Memorial Scholarship

KUMC undergraduate women students are eligible for this renewable $1,000 award. Applicants must be enrolled full-time, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, demonstrate financial need, and serve one year on the EMWMS Advisory Committee upon graduation. Ida Foreman Fleisher Fund Scholarship

Ida Foreman Fleisher Fund - Administered by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, the Foreman Fleisher fund was established in memory of his mother Ida Fleisher. The fund provides scholarships for the purpose of permitting women, preferably Jewish, to obtain professional educations. Grant distributions are administered by a local bank and customarily sent directly to the student's school to be used for tuition. Deadline: May 31st. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

This award is for Undergraduate students planning to attend a full time Graduate School program in the Fall 2005. The maximum award for this scholarship is $50,000. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applications can be picked up in the Student Financial Aid Office or at www.jackkentcookefoundation.org or call 1-800-498-6478. James B. Pearson Fellowship Award

This award provides assistance to graduate students who have been approved to be involved in a study abroad program. The average stipend awarded is $2,456. Applicaions can be received by calling the Kansas Board of Regents at (785) 296-3517. Deadline is April 1.

Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship

Students entering into Radiological Sciences may apply for a scholarship sponsored by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. This scholarship is awarded annually to U.S. citizens, U.S. national or permanet resident students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a B average in radiological sciences core curriculum. This student must possess financial need. Applications can be found at www.asrt.org. Deadline is February 1st (must be post marked).

John Knox Village Auxiliary Health Care Career Scholarship

A one time $1,000 Scholarship for students who have been accepted in any health related program at KUMC. Candidates must maintain a G.P.A. of 3.0, posses good communication skills, and demonstrate financial need. Applications @ (816)347-2127 or email sboehm@jkv.org . Deadline is May 5.

Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship

The Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship program is designed to assist financially needy, academically competitive students who are identified as members of any of the following ethnic/racial groups: African American, American Indian or Alaskan Native; Asian or Pacific Islander; or Hispanic. This program is designed to assist financially needy students in the top 20-40% of Kansas high school graduates who are designated as state scholars. Lillian & Arthur Dunn Scholarship

This $2,000 scholarship is available for deserving sons and daughters of members of the National Society of Daughter of the American Revolution for four years of college to complete an Undergraduate or Graduate degree. National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship

The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers competitive scholarships to KUMC students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral and social science health-related research. Occupational Therapy Scholarship

A one time $500 Scholarship for students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are attending KUMC pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy. Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship

Minority students entering into entry- level radiological science programs provided by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the ASRT Education and Research Foundation. This scholarship is awarded annually to U.S. citizens, U.S. national or permanet resident students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a B average in radiological sciences core curriculum. This student must possess financial need. Applications can be found at www.asrt.org. Deadline is February 1st.

September 11th Grant Program

Dependent/spouse of deceased September 11th victims may apply for a grant up $15,000 each semester to complete an Undergraduate degree. The applicant must demostrate financial need to qualify. Shawnee County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship

This scholarship provides funding to KUMC students seeking or pursing degrees in medicine, nursing, or an allied health field. Candidates must be a permanent resident of Shawnee County, enrolled full-time, and have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher where an "A"=4.0. Applications may be acquired by calling Cindy Giessel at (785) 273-9673. Deadline is March 31.

Talbots Women's Scholarship

KUMC undergraduate women students are eligible for this award. Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED on or before September 1994; be enrolled or planning to enroll in a undergraduate course of study at KUMC; attending the Fall 2004 and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2005; and have at least two semesters remaining to complete their degree as of the beginning of the 2003 fall semester. USA Funds Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to KUMC students who demonstrate financial need, are members of an ethnic-minority group or are physically disabled. This program awards scholarships worth $1,500 and may be renewed annually up to three years if the student maintains a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Applications can be downloaded at www.usafunds.org. Varian Radiation Therapy Student Scholarship

Students currenly enrolled in an entry-level radiation therapy program may apply for this scholarships by Varian Medical System and ASRT Education and Research Foundation. This scholarship is awarded annually to U.S. citizens, U.S. national or permanet resident students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a B average in radiological sciences core curriculum. This student must possess financial need. Applications can be found at www.asrt.org. Deadline is February 1st.

Zonta International Scholarship

A one time $750 Scholarship awarded to women who reside in Wyandotte or Leavenworth County, demonstrate financial need, and who are seeking a degree from KUMC. You can get an application by contacting Tracy Talkin at (913) 334-7628. Deadline is April 1.

American Cancer Society Scholarship

A $10,000-$15,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to students who have been accepted into or who are pursing a master's or doctoral degree program accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The applicant must be an American citizen or permanent resident and posses a current license to practice as a registered nurse. Army Nurse Candidate Program

A $10,000 bonus ($5K upon acceptance of enrollment documents and $5k at start of senior year)
A Monthly stipend of $1000
To qualify you must:
Be a junior or senior enrolled full-time in accredited BSN program, posses a minimum 3.2GPA, be a US citizen, meet moral and physical qualifications to become an Army Officer
Juniors incur a five-year active duty obligation, Seniors incur a four-year active duty obligation

Arthur M. Miller Fund Scholarship

Funds to be given to deserving individuals who are studying in medical or allied health leading to credit degree programs in nursing and medicine EXCLUDING osteopaths, naturopaths, podiatrists, chiropractors and optometrists. Baker Trust Scholarship

Baker Trust located in LaCrosse, KS is interested in assisting persons who are already Registered Nurses in completing the BSN or MS degrees in nursing and in encouraging those persons to remain in Western Kansas in order to provide quality nursing care to citizens of that region. Persons must live in Kansas west of Highway 81 in order to be eligible to be considered. Applications are accepted each semester by the School of Nursing from currently enrolled students. Students must be enrolled in 6 credits during the semesters in which they receive Baker Trust funds. Bridge to Tomorrow Grant

KUMC undergraduate students who are dependents and/or spouses of victims of September 11th or the 2001 anthrax attacks who demonstrate financial need are eligible for this award. Applications can be found at www.jackkentcookefoundation.org. Deadline is March 15 for the summer semester.

Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship

A $500 Scholarship awarded to students who have been accepted into or who are pursing an approved course of study to become a nurse and who are in financial need. Mary Alice Hartigan Scholarship

Students must be enrolled in full-time hours of study for a regular semester in an accredited/approved nursing or surgical services program. Students who are accepted or enrolled in a Nursing program may apply for this National Soceity Daughters of American Revolution Nursing Scholarship. Mildred Nutting Scholarship

Nancy Whalen Foundation Scholarship

KUMC nursing students who are enrolled as a junior or senior in the BSN program or who are licensed registered nurses enrolled in a BSN completion program are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must reside in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan area and maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Deadline is June 1.

Navy Nurse Corps

KUMC nursing students pursing a baccalaureate degree are eligible to receive this award with the obligation to serve four years of active duty in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps upon graduation. For more information, call (800) 327-NAVY.

Nursing Services Scholarship

KUMC nursing students who are pursing a career in Kansas are eligible for this award. Students must be enrolled full-time at KUMC. Students interested in applying must complete the FAFSA, complete the Financial Aid Sources for Kansas Students Application along with a $10 fee found at www.kansasregents.org, complete the scholarship application, and obtain sponsorship from a medical provider for whom they want to work. Deadline is May 1.

Providence Saint John Foundation

Students interested in applying for one of the various health care scholarships are to print an application from their website (www.providence-health.org/foundation) and click on the link for Health Care Scholarships or contact Becca Hurd ath the Providence Saint John Foundation (913)596-5110 to request materials. Students must select the scholarships they are intersted in and mail the application along with any required support materials to the Providence Saint John Foundation. Saint Joseph Health Center Nursing Scholarship

This $500-$1,000 Scholarship is available to KUMC nursing students who demonstrate financial need. Candidates must be enrolled or entering their junior or senior year or pursing graduate studies in nursing. You can get an application by contacting (816) 942-4400. Deadline is March 1.

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to KUMC nursing students who have completed at least one nursing course at KUMC and demonstrate financial need. Health Professions Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to American Indian and/or Alaska Native student enrolled full or part-time pursuing a course of study in specific health professions. This program requires a service obligation and/or payback requirement. For more information and an application, contact the Area Scholarship Coordinator at (580) 276-5983. Deadline is February 28.

Hispanic College Fund

The Hispanic College Fund Scholars Program maintains many scholarship programs which can be researched at their website http://scholarships.hispanicfund.org/applications/. Each program has different requirements and deadlines. Students must complete the online applications, so that the HCF will be able to match with a scholarship program which should fit students' interests. Please note: HCF only accepts online applications.  No paper applications are available. Hispanic Scholarship Program

A $1,000-$2,500 scholarship awarded to a KUMC student of Hispanic heritage, in an undergraduate or graduate program, and a full-time student. Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA and have completed 12 units or credits at an U.S. accredited institution. National Federation of the Blind Scholarship(s)

These scholarships are restricted to blind students who are enrolled full or part-time at KUMC seeking an accredited degree. These awards are based on scholastic excellence, financial need, and community service. You can get an application by contacting Peggy Elliot at (641) 236-3366. Deadline is March 31.

Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program

The Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program provides financial support for Native Hawaiian students pursuing careers in selected health professions. The program's goals are to increase the number of Native Hawaiians in health professions and to improve the availability of primary and preventive care services to Native Hawaiians in the State of Hawaii. Peace Corps

This educational award allows KUMC students to be involved with the community while the U.S. Peace Corps pays a percentage of their student loan debt. Spencer Dissertation Fellowship

This is awarded to students who are candidates for a doctoral degree in any field of study at KUMC. For further information, please contact the Spencer Dissertation Fellowship Foundation at (312) 337-7000 or log onto www.spencer.org. Deadline is in October.
