KUMC Student Financial Aid Office made the decision to begin processing student loans through the Federal Direct Loan program beginning with the 2009-2010 academic year.
The U.S. Department of Education Direct Loan Program provides loans to help students pay for education. The Department of Education acts as a lender, providing funds for Stafford loans and PLUS loans in the same amounts as the Stafford and PLUS loans offered through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), in which banks and other private lenders provide these loans.
Students will need to complete a new Master Promissory Note if they have not previously borrowed through the Federal Direct Lending program. Students new to KUMC are required to complete the Federal Direct Lending Loan Entrance Counseling.

Please contact our office at 913-588-5170 for more information or email us at www.financialaid@kumc.edu.
If you choose to borrow from a lender instead of from the Direct Lending Program, you are required to complete and return the Stafford Loan Request Form. You will decline the offered Direct Lending loans on your Enroll & Pay. You will need to have completed a Master Promissory Note with the lender you have selected.
