Kansas City: Any student participating in a clinical clerkship experience in year 3-4 that requires contact with a patient with a suspected or known pulmonary TB will be referred by their preceptor to Student Health Services for N 95 mask fitting and training. Students in year 1-2 will be asked to abstain from working with a patient with suspected or confirmed pulmonary TB.
Students will be asked to call the Student Health Center for a fitting/training appointment. Every attempt will be made to fit any student that calls before 2pm on the same day. If a student calls after 2pm, they will be fitted and trained on the next business day. Students should not participate in care of a patient with suspected or known pulmonary TB until fitting and training have occurred. Students will be asked to provide a written referral note signed by their Attending Physician or Supervising Resident for the fitting to occur.
The cost for this service is $25.00. Any student who desires to be fitted for an outside rotation, travel or volunteer work will be expected to pay for the services at the time of the training and fitting. Students will not be expected to pay for fitting services if they are referred by their Supervising Resident or Attending Physician during a required clerkship. The School of Medicine will be billed on a quarterly basis for fitting services that are necessary for patient care during required clerkships.

Nursing students will not be fitted for N95 and therefore will be asked to abstain from caring for patients with suspected or confirmed pulmonary TB. Any nursing student who is caring for a patient with suspected or confirmed pulmonary TB will be assigned another patient.
As the students in this program do not have patient contact, they will not be trained or fitted for N95 masks.
