Federal Perkins Loan

A low Interest loan available to students with financial need; interest does not accrue while in school. Upon graduation Perkins loans can be partially cancelled at the end of each year of employment for Nursing and/or Health Professions of study students if you are working within the nursing and/or health professions field. KUMC is the lender of this loan.

Deadline:Priority deadline of March 1st

Application: Must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov

Interest Rate: 5% Fixed

Does it have to be repaid? Yes

If yes, when? 9 months after graduation

Award Maximum: Varies $1500-$2500

Need based: Yes

Enrollment: Must be enrolled at least half-time or loan will enter grace period and repayment schedule will begin. For specific information on undergraduate and graduate enrollment please read KUMC's Enrollment Information.
