Men are encouraged to come strut their stuff as The University of Kansas American Medical Women's Association and the Officde of Student Life host the annual "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" event on Monday October 7th, 2013. During the event, men walk a mile in women's shoes around the KUMC campus to raise awareness for domestic violence, and raise funds for the Rose Brooks Center. Registration is underway for this year's event and forms can be found in the Office of Student Life, G005 Orr Major.
Participants are encouraged to sign-up at any point with their shoe size and t-shirt size, to ensure they get the sizes they would like. AMWA will be providing shoes for all participants, however, men may bring their own women's shoes if they desire. Participation is open to all men, including KUMC students, staff and faculty. The goal for each participant is to get $50 in donations before the day of the walk. Women are also critical to the event, as volunteers and donations can come from anywhere!
The actual event will start with walk registration at 11:45 in the School of Nursing Atrium, where men can turn in their donations and pick up their shoes and t-shirts. They will then walk a mile around the campus in their heels. Lunch will be provided directly after the walk in Rieke Auditorium, while a guest speaker from Rose Brooks shares about their organization. Questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org
