BFA - Dance and Choreography Post-Bacc - Pre-Medical
Courtney Collado brings to KUMC a unique perspective on fitness and health. A former professional dancer from New York City, Courtney received her BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2001 and performed with dance companies in New York City until 2008, when she retired and returned to school as a pre-medical student in January of 2009.
Courtney began working in the fitness industry in 2004 when she earned her first Pilates certifications through STOTT Pilates; she then became a Master Trainer for Cardiolates (a hybrid rebounding/Pilates technique) and Pilates Academy International, training and testing new instructors, and teaching coursework in Anatomy, Biomechanics and Postural Analysis; Injuries and Special Populations; Pilates mat and apparatus work. Additionally, Courtney has created and taught numerous trademarked fitness formats; functional anatomy workshops; anatomy syllabi for fitness certifications; and was selected by MyGroupFit.com to represent Kansas as one of 16 regional fitness professionals, contributing content and blogs throughout 2013.
With her varied background in movement and fitness, Courtney brings a keen kinetic awareness to her training and teaching. Her experience in rehab as well as gym settings lends her the ability to adapt to each client and class participant's needs. She is dedicated to helping people live a healthier, stronger life and is always ready to learn. When she finds free time, she enjoys learning aerial acrobatics, performing with local dance companies, finding a new farmer's market or yoga studio, and spending time playing with her son, Kellan.
