Throughout the academic year, The Writing Center holds a "Write-In." This free event held at Dykes Library brings together students and residents for a day of writing and research. The goal of the Write-In is to encourage discussion about writing and, most importantly, to generate writing required for classes and professional development. It's becoming a tradition here at KU Medical Center.
Every summer, fall, and spring, the Write-In welcomes students and residents in all fields to meet at Dykes for this half-day event. Writers can arrive at the start or drop in when they feel like it. Every semester the goal is the same: good writing and a good time at writing.
Andrés Rodríguez, Graduate Writing Specialist, organizes the Write-In and helps participants with writing questions. School of Nursing Liaison/Biomedical Librarian Heather Collins is on hand to help with research and citation management questions. Between them, Andrés and Heather have many years of experience and a strong commitment to ensure that all students and residents can be successful in writing and research.
The Write-In offers our community a way to transform coursework into contributions to knowledge. There are many demands here at the Medical Center, not the least of which is time. By offering time and space to work on writing/research, the Write-In strives to enhance success.
